What we do

Care is written for one person,
then rewritten as things change.

There is no package with tiers. A nurse assesses what someone actually needs — help dressing, a medication routine, a steadier arm in the evening — and that plan is revisited as often as it has to be, without a move or a renegotiation.

Who we are

Two houses on ordinary streets,
run by people who know every resident.

Selah is not a wing of a larger building. It is two real homes in Columbia and Silver Spring, small enough that the caregiver who greets your mother on Monday is the same one there on Thursday.

Meet the founder behind Selah

Founded by Aggie Joseph, a nurse who had seen what good care asks of you.

Selah Senior Living was founded by Aggie Joseph, RN, a Maryland-licensed Registered Nurse and Certified Dementia Practitioner with more than 13 years of experience as a Delegating Nurse — and created from a deep understanding of what compassionate senior care should look like.

After years of working alongside residents, families, caregivers and healthcare professionals, our founder envisioned a different kind of assisted living: one where personalized care, dignity, compassion and genuine human connection come first.

Her mission is simple — to provide every resident with the utmost care, and to create a place where each person feels safe, respected, valued and truly at home.

That vision is Selah.

At Selah Senior Living, mealtime is more than simply a meal. Residents enjoy thoughtfully prepared, home-style meals in a warm and inviting dining environment.

Conversation and companionship at the table matter as much as what is on the plate. Meals are cooked in the house and served at one table, and they are adapted to each resident’s needs — including special diets, pureed foods and feeding tube support.

Life here

Days are chosen, not scheduled.

A hobby, the garden, a long conversation with someone who has the same afternoon free — and a caregiver awake and nearby through the night.

What Families Say

We placed my father at Selah in the fall of 2023. He was suffering with severe dementia and had terrible experiences at other places. The owner — an experienced RN — and her staff were amazing. They attended to him around the clock, and welcomed our family whenever we wanted to visit.

Selah accepted both of my parents, even though both were suffering from dementia and had intensive physical needs. The owner, an RN, worked hard with us on a care plan for both. They treated my parents with such kindness and dignity that they soon earned my parents’ trust.

The house is immaculately clean, the staff is amazing, and the owner and her family became like family to us. They bent over backwards to meet my mother’s needs. I was nervous to move my mom into an assisted living facility, but those fears quickly disappeared.

I was told I would be made to feel “right at home,” treated “like a member of their family.” I was a bit skeptical at first, but it wasn’t long before I came to realize the veracity of their statements. Every effort in my care was personalized and professional.

My mom has been at Selah for about a year and a half. She has dementia, and they have managed her care remarkably. When she came, her diabetes was rarely under control; since being there it is fully under control. I can’t say enough good things about the place.

I placed my good friend with Selah last spring. His care has been excellent and I am completely satisfied. After several ER visits and stays in rehab, he entered suffering with nausea and was quickly put on the path to a full recovery. His daily needs are met without delay.

The staff are kind and they go above and beyond to ensure residents feel comfortable. The atmosphere is warm and clean. I would recommend this home to anyone seeking reliable and compassionate care for their loved one.

Questions families ask first

Honest answers, before you visit.

A caregiver and a resident outdoors at the end of the day
What kind of care is provided at Selah?

Selah has refined the art of creating a space for individuals who need assistance with the activities of daily living, in a warm, non-medical residential setting. We offer individually tailored programs: Assisted Living, Personal Care, Hospice and Respite Care — with 24/7 supervision, a 1:2 staff-to-resident ratio and an on-call registered nurse.

How large are the homes?

They are real residential houses, and deliberately small. That intimate scale is the whole point: a caregiver can come to know every resident's routine, diet and family rather than managing a wing. It is also why availability is limited, and why we keep a short waiting list.

What does it cost, and what is included?

Pricing depends on the room and the level of care, and it is quoted as one monthly figure after an in-person assessment. Meals, snacks, housekeeping, linen and laundry, activities, cable TV, internet and daily care are all included — we do not bill à la carte for help with dressing or a second shower. Ask us for the current rate sheet during your tour.

Can we visit, and when?

Yes, and gladly. Families are welcome at mealtimes rather than only during set "visiting hours." Call us and we will find a time that suits you — come at dinner if you would like the truest picture of the home.

What happens if my parent's needs increase?

The care plan is rewritten, not the address. Most increases in support — more help with mobility, a new medication schedule, closer supervision — are handled in place. We coordinate directly with your physician and, when appropriate, with hospice and palliative care, so that a move is the last option rather than the first.

How quickly can someone move in?

When a room is open, move-in is usually quick: a care assessment, a physician's form, and a move-in day scheduled around your family. We will tell you honestly on the first call whether we have space. See For Families for the full admission process.
