Ask first. Always.
Help with bathing or dressing is offered gently, explained first, and timed to suit the person receiving it. We never take away independence simply because it would be quicker.

Home / About Us
That is not a phrase we put on a wall. It is the reason our homes are small, our caregivers are the same familiar faces week after week, and our door is always open to you.
Welcome
Our lovely residential assisted living homes provide an intimate, comfortable environment where seniors receive attentive, personalized care surrounded by warmth, dignity, and respect.
We combine high-level care with first-class hospitality to create an experience tailored to each resident. From spacious accommodations and home-style dining to compassionate daily support, every detail is thoughtfully designed to promote comfort, independence, and quality of life.
Our goal is simple: to provide a safe and welcoming home where residents can feel cared for, valued, and truly at ease.
Care is personal. Home is important. And every resident matters.
What makes Selah different
Most assisted living homes are owned by an operator and staffed by nurses. Selah is the other way round: the owner is a registered nurse who writes the care plans herself, and is the person you reach when something changes at two in the morning.
It is the reason care here is decided clinically rather than commercially. A resident whose needs increase gets a rewritten plan, not a discharge letter — and a family told “not yet” is told so by the nurse who would have to look after them.

Our story
A nurse. A caregiver. A vision for something better.

Selah Senior Living was born from a simple but deeply held belief: every senior deserves to be cared for with dignity, compassion, patience, and genuine respect.
At the heart of Selah is its founder, Aggie Joseph, a Registered Nurse licensed in the State of Maryland, whose career has been shaped by a deep commitment to caring for others.
For more than 13 years, she served as a Delegating Nurse for assisted living communities and other care facilities, working closely with residents, caregivers, families, and healthcare professionals. Those years provided her with a firsthand understanding of both the rewards and the challenges of senior care. More importantly, they gave her a clear perspective on what truly matters when caring for someone in the later chapters of life.
She saw that exceptional care is about much more than medications, routines, and daily tasks. It is about knowing the person. Listening to their needs. Respecting their choices. Preserving their dignity. And creating an environment where they feel safe, valued, and at home.
That experience became the foundation for Selah Senior Living.
After more than a decade of serving others as a Delegating Nurse, she decided to create something of her own — a place where her philosophy of care could become a daily reality. And so, Selah Senior Living was born.
Her vision was never simply to create another assisted living facility. It was to create a true home — a place where residents receive the highest level of personal attention, and where families can have confidence that their loved ones are genuinely cared for.
To provide each resident with the utmost care, while honoring their individuality, dignity, independence, and quality of life.
Every resident has a story — a lifetime of experiences, relationships, traditions and preferences. Selah was created to honor those stories, and to make each resident feel seen: not simply as someone receiving care, but as a valued member of the Selah family.
Her nursing career taught her how to care for people. Her years as a Delegating Nurse taught her what quality care truly requires. But her vision for Selah comes from something even deeper — a belief that care should always be personal.
That belief continues to shape everything we do at Selah Senior Living. Because when you entrust us with someone you love, we understand that you are entrusting us with far more than their care. You are entrusting us with a part of your family. And we take that responsibility to heart.
“I wanted to create a place where every resident is cared for the way I would want my own family to be cared for.”Aggie Joseph, RN · Founder & Executive Director
Our story
Bigger communities are built for efficiency. That is a fine goal for a building, and the wrong one for someone's home. So we did it differently: two real houses on quiet Maryland streets, a small number of residents in each, and enough caregivers that everyone is known by name.
The word Selah appears throughout the Psalms, where it is understood as a rest — a pause placed gently in the middle of the music. That is what we hope to offer: an unhurried pace, a home that moves at the speed of the people living in it, and help that arrives kindly, often before anyone has to ask.
What we believe

Help with bathing or dressing is offered gently, explained first, and timed to suit the person receiving it. We never take away independence simply because it would be quicker.
Residents bring their own furniture, photographs and quilts. A room that looks and feels like home is not decoration — it is comfort, reassurance and a sense of self.
A fall, a change in appetite, a restless night — we call you the same day, so you never find out later. And if a need ever grows beyond what we can safely provide, we will tell you kindly and early.
One shared table, afternoons together, and caregivers who pull up a chair rather than pass through. Company matters as much to wellbeing as anything else we do, so we make time for it every day.
Our team
Small homes mean familiar faces. Your family will see the same caregivers on the same shifts, week after week — the thing families tell us matters most of all.

Trained, background-checked, CPR- and first-aid certified, and assigned to one home rather than a rotation. They cook, they sit and talk, and they are the first to notice when something is a little different.
A nurse-led review of every care plan, medication reconciliation, and direct contact with your physician, pharmacy and specialists so your family is not the messenger.
Meals cooked on site each day, laundry and housekeeping handled quietly, and a house kept to the standard you would keep it to yourself.

Meet the owner
You will not be handed between a sales office, a regional manager and a scheduler. The person who shows you the house is the person accountable for it — and they are in the homes, not in a corporate office.
Call and ask anything: staffing on a Sunday night, what happens after a fall, how a difficult week is handled. You will get a direct answer.
How care actually works here
Tell us what has been happening at home. We will listen, and we will be honest about whether assisted living is the right step yet — sometimes it is not, and we will say so.
Walk through the home, meet the caregivers on shift, and stay for a meal. Bring your loved one if they feel up to it, and your brothers and sisters if the decision is a shared one.
A nurse sits down with you and your physician to review mobility, medications, memory, diet and daily routine, then puts one monthly figure in writing.
We help you plan the room, the first week, and that difficult first goodbye. Most families are surprised by how quickly it begins to feel like home.
The best way to know a home is to stand in it on an ordinary afternoon. Come at mealtime — there is always a place for you at the table.
